Safety Protocols

Effective Date: 06 January 2025

Safety is central to how FortunIQ Fuels operates. As a petroleum logistics provider, we handle a hazardous product, and we take our responsibility to protect our drivers, clients, and the communities we deliver to seriously. The protocols below outline the standards we follow across our fleet and delivery operations.

1. Vehicle and Fleet Standards

  • All tankers undergo regular roadworthy inspections and maintenance in line with National Road Traffic Act requirements.
  • Vehicles are fitted with required placarding, fire extinguishers, spill kits, and emergency shut-off equipment.
  • Every compartment is sealed with tamper-evident security seals prior to dispatch, verified against the Bill of Lading on arrival.

2. Driver Training and Conduct

  • All drivers hold a valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) with the relevant dangerous goods endorsement.
  • Drivers complete regular defensive driving and hazardous materials handling training.
  • Drivers are required to follow designated routes and rest periods in line with road safety regulations.

3. Loading and Offloading Safety

  • Loading takes place only at approved, refinery-certified facilities.
  • Static electricity bonding and earthing procedures are followed at every loading and offloading point to prevent ignition risk.
  • No smoking, open flames, or unauthorised electronic devices are permitted within the designated safety zone during transfer operations.
  • Clients are asked to ensure clear, safe vehicle access to the delivery point and to keep the offloading area free of unauthorised personnel during delivery.

4. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

All personnel involved in loading, transport, and offloading are required to wear appropriate PPE, including flame-resistant clothing, safety footwear, gloves, and eye protection, in line with site-specific safety requirements.

5. Spill Prevention and Emergency Response

  • Every vehicle carries spill containment equipment and is staffed by personnel trained in initial spill response.
  • In the event of a spill, leak, or safety incident, our team follows a documented emergency response procedure and notifies the relevant authorities where required.
  • Clients and site personnel are encouraged to report any safety concerns immediately to our delivery team or head office.

6. Regulatory Compliance

Our operations are conducted in accordance with the Petroleum Products Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the National Road Traffic Act, and applicable SANS standards for the transport and storage of petroleum products.
